Scan AWS
A short, practical guide to get Dr Migrate Collector (DMC) scanning your AWS environment. Pick the scan you need, complete every step on that page, and you're ready to run.
How DMC works in one line\ DMC runs from a machine inside your AWS environment, uses read-only access you create to collect data, and exports it as a password-protected file you import into Dr Migrate. No agents are installed and Dr Migrate never connects in to your environment.
Choose your scan¶
When you select AWS on the DMC main screen, DMC asks which scan type you want to run. For most assessments, choose Both.
Run both scans together in a single pass for the most complete picture of your AWS estate.
- EC2 instance discovery and in-guest scanning
- CloudWatch performance metrics
- Full inventory of AWS services, resources, and cost data
Discover and scan your servers in depth, inside the operating system.
- EC2 instance discovery
- Guest OS scanning (software, dependencies)
- CloudWatch performance metrics
- Connects via SSM, SSH or WinRM
Build a complete view of your AWS estate using native AWS APIs.
- All services and resources
- Accounts and regions
- Cost and usage data
- No server credentials required
Not sure which to pick?¶
Use EC2 Scan when you need deep detail about your servers: installed software, dependencies between servers, and right-sizing data for migration planning.
Use AWS Estate Discovery when you need a full inventory of every AWS service and your cost profile, without touching the servers themselves.
If you want both, choose Both for a single-pass combined scan. Or set each up independently if you need to run them separately.
Need to discuss a requirement?\ Every item in these guides is required for a clean, complete scan. If something doesn't fit your environment, talk to your Dr Migrate contact before changing it, which is faster than running a partial scan and reworking it later.
